105-year-old Bhageerathi Amma from India appeared to attend the class 4 exam and becomes the oldest learner till now.
As they say, that age is never a barrier if you are determined to do what you want to do and 105-year-old Bhageerathi Amma proved it also. She became the oldest learner to appear for a class 4th equivalency exam on Tuesday in Thrikkaruva in Kollam district.
When she was young she had to quit her studies as she was left with no other option but to take over the responsibilities of her family. But, after regretting for a long time, the oldest lady has now resumed her studies under the Kerala State Literacy Mission.
When Amma was young she lost her mother and after that being the oldest sibling she had to take care of her younger sibling and got no time to study and follow her passion. After this, when she got married soon her husband died and she was left alone to take care of her four daughters and two sons.
Ignoring her age, her sharp memory helps her to remember everything and her better eyesight is a bonus to study well and score well in the school.
Currently, she is living with her youngest daughter, Thankamani Amma, who is 67-year-old.
Bhageerathi Amma is turning to be a tough competition for Karthyayani Amma who is 96-years-old and is a native of Haripad. Karthyayani has scored 98 marks out of 100 in the Literacy Mission’s Aksharalaksham literacy program.
Looking at the efforts and passion of Karthyayani Amma she was later chosen as the Commonwealth Goodwill Ambassador.
Both the ladies and other ladies as well, who are like them have been proving that there is no right age to get an education. It is all about your passion and will.
