Gender Diversity is Being Seen in Technology; 73,000 Women Enrolled for Coding Challenge this Year

A sharp rise has been noticed in the enrollment of women coders in the fifth edition of Tech-Gig’s Geek Goddess showing gender diversity

The vice president of the tech department of Times Internet, Ram Awasthi said that a sharp rise has been witnessed in the number of women coders enrolled for the 5th edition of Tech-Gig’s Geek Goddess and this increase is clearly showing that the gender diversity in the tech industry is improving.

While 39,000 women enrolled in the first edition, 73,000 registrations were seen in the 5th edition of the coding challenge for women.

“The biggest change is that we started from 39,000 registrations in the first edition and this year – in the fifth edition – we have crossed 73,000. This number is quite encouraging and shows the interest women are taking in coding,”

Awasthi said. He said that this positively shows improvement in gender diversity in the technology industry.

There has been a great jump in the number of women coders enrolling for the challenge. Where the coding challenge for women witnessed registrations of more than 60,000 last year, it has jumped to 73,000 this year, and out of this, 375 participants successfully made it to the finals, that took place on Friday.

Once the final round will be completed, 13 participants from multiple themes and a generic coding category will be picked up as winners of the challenge.

As per a statement by Awasthi, some of the Tech-Gig contestants have been rewarded with a rise in their pays while some have been granted jobs for roles in multinational tech firms. He said that the primary focus of TechGig remains on assessing and connecting the right talent with the right employers or platforms.

6 themes were noticed during the fifth edition of the Geek Goddess, which are based on developing technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, Cloud, robotic process automation and others.
