The police have arrested 4 accused in the rape and murder case of a 27-year-old veterinary surgeon on Friday.
The citizens of India are once again in anger after a 27-year-old Hyderabad doctor got raped and burned to death on Wednesday. People are protesting for justice for Priyanka Reddy, who lost her life due to some monstrous men who raped her for their own needs and then burned her so that there is no evidence is left of their wrong deeds.
This incident has reminded the people of the 2012 Nirbhaya rape case. Indian women since then have been asking for some strong steps by the government for their safety on roads and everywhere from men who don’t understand the meaning of a ‘NO’.
As per the announcement made by Cyberabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar on Friday, the 4 accused men have been arrested in the rape case. The police have said that they are requesting for the case to be handed over to the fast-track court in Mahbubnagar to fasten-up the prosecution and push for maximum punishment. 15 teams were formed to crack the case.
The rapists included 2 truck drivers and their 2 helpers and all of them were in their 20s.
Sajjanar said that the rape was pre-planned and the accused were said to have kept an eye on the movements of the doctor. The tire of her scooty, which she was parked near the Tondupally toll plaza, was punctured deliberately and she was unwittingly trapped by the men.
She was taken forcefully by the men who were drunk at that time after she made her last call to her sister telling her that she is not feeling safe with these men who were pretending to help her with her vehicle. As per the postmortem reports, she was gang-raped on Wednesday and tortured before they strangled and killed her in an empty plot behind the Tondupally toll plaza at the Outer Ring Road at Shamshabad, said Sajjanar.
As Sajjanar continued he said that the accused initially attempted to break into an empty shed and then tried to push her through its window, but they failed.
“So they committed the act in the open. This was a plot of empty land, very close to the toll plaza and near a busy road,”
said the officer.
He said that the accused took the body and her scooty in a lorry.
“They removed the license plates and left the vehicles 40 km from the site, after which they went to a bridge near Shadnagar town in Ranga Reddy district, knowing it was a desolate place,”
he said.
“Then they wrapped her body in a bedsheet, poured kerosene and burnt her. They left the body burning there and escaped.”
Talking about the case, Telangana’s senior cabinet minister KT Rama Rao said that he himself will personally look into this devastating case and said that he is outraged and deeply anguished by the murder.
As the people were protesting for Reddy’s justice, another body of a female found burned on Friday by the police in Shamshabad. Though the police are suspecting this to be a suicide case, the actual reason will be revealed after the autopsy report will be released.
But it is the time for men to stop raping women and then killing them for their needs. They need to understand that they can’t go against the will of a female and it is also the time for the Indian government to actually take some serious steps or that time is not so far when the people will start taking the law into their hands for the safety of women.
