E-commerce giant Amazon announces that those who are not Prime Members can too listen to music for free on their favorite devices.
The competitors of Amazon are already in tension since the giant in an announcement said,
“Customers who do not yet have a Prime membership or a subscription to Amazon Music Unlimited, can now listen to an ad-supported selection of top playlists and thousands of stations for free on their favorite devices.”
The announcement was made on Monday in a blog the company published with a plan to expand its free music streaming opportunities to the users without a Prime membership, Amazon Music Unlimited subscription, or Amazon Echo.
The company has been offering different plans currently to its music-streaming customers. Those who are the Prime Members of Amazon have access to more than 2 million songs that too without being interrupted by the ads. And by upgrading to Amazon Music Unlimited, at just $7.99 per month for Prime members and $9.99 for non-Prime members, the users can access the platform’s music library without any limitations.
Before this, Amazon permitted free access to the ad-supported version of its music service just for the Alexa users on Echo devices.
The move is suggested to have come by the company to hook some of the Spotify’s millions of customers. The famous music streaming service’s latest report revealed that it had 113 million subscribers, who are paying $9.99/month along with 248 million active users who can enjoy the app’s free ad-supported music.
Though Amazon is trying hard to grab as many subscribers as it can, Spotify’s free, ad-supported tier is still more developed than Amazon music. It allows the users to form playlists and play music on-demand from their laptops or desktops.
Spotify is not going well with the announcement made by Amazon and suffered a sharp fall of 5% shares in regular trading on Monday as the investors reacted to the giant’s action.
