Islamabad/Pakistan: Former President of was born in Delhi during the British Raj, and raised in Karachi, Istanbul. A retired four-star general of the Pakistan Army has been sentenced to death by the Pakistan court. The trial against the former president was ongoing proceedings of high treason committed until 2001, denunciating his resignation to avoid impeachment in 2008.
The Former Pakistan President, General Pervez Musharraf on the evening of 3rd November 2007 declared a state of emergency as per the article 232 by the Pakistani Constitution – before the court could reach a decision; the former issued a provisional constitutional order which replaced Pakistan’s constitution while acting as a Chief of the Army Staff.
The former military dictator was sentenced to death today morning by a three-member special bench of an honorable court. The high treason case against him for suspending Pakistan’s constitution in 2007 and imposing emergency precedent in the country is a punishable offense by Pakistan’s Law for which the former was indicted in 2014.
The Former President, Pervez Musharraf, 76, left Pakistan during March 2016 to Dubai for medical treatment and has not returned ever since citing severe health and security reasons. Since then, the former has been living in exile in London and Dubai.
Reports confirm that on Monday the 16th of December, 2019. The former president Pervez Musharraf was admitted to an American hospital in Dubai after suffering from a “heart-related problem,” cited the reporters.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif instituted the high treason case against the former president, Pervez Musharraf; the trial was pending since 2013. The emergency declared in 2007, had sparked civil protests against Musharraf, enforcing him to resign from his post in the face of impeachment proceedings.
The honored court had ordered the former to record statements by December 5th. However, the former President failed to present himself at the court. Hence after, the three-judge special bench announced the verdict today morning, which they had reserved in November 2019; they sentenced Pervez Musharraf to death.
The former blatantly challenged the special court verdict and sought suspension of his trial in his absence due to medical reasons. The former requested the Lahore High Court to suspend the special court’s reserved verdict until the former is healthy enough to appear before the court for the proceedings.
“Musharraf wanted to record his statement and was ready to visit Pakistan, but he demanded foolproof security which was not provided by the Pakistani government. Musharraf is still in Dubai and is recovering from his sickness,”
said the former’s lawyer Akhtar Shah
Musharraf escaped at least three Al-Qaeda assassination attempts during his tenure in office and became a key U.S. ally in the “war on terror” agenda. The former’s rule faced no severe challenges until he tried to dismiss the Chief of Justice in March 2007. The nation protested and sparked hatred among the citizens of Pakistan against Musharraf, leading to months of turmoil, which ultimately led to the imposition of a state emergency by the former President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf.
The assassination of the former beloved prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto in December 2007 left the nation sour in agony. The sour rage of the public after the assassination isolated Musharraf; crushing losses his allies suffered in February 2008 elections.
Citing today’s shocking headlines, the former president of Pakistan is indeed sentenced to death for suspending the constitution of Pakistan and imposing a state of emergency precedent in the country in November 2007.
