Sign in by 11th December or Your Account will be History: Twitter Sending Mail to Inactive Accounts

The owners of inactive accounts are receiving mails from Twitter to sign in soon or else their accounts will be deleted.

It is time for all the inactive Twitter users to sign in soon or else they will have to lose their accounts. This is because Twitter has been sending out emails to all the owners of inactive accounts with a warning that

“Sign in by 11th December, or your account will be history and its username will be up for grabs again.”

All those who have not signed in for more than 6 months will receive the mail warning them about their account being deleted.

But soon after it declared 11th December as the final date, it announced that the process is going to be delayed until it can implement a way to memorialize the accounts of those people who’ve died.

“As part of our commitment to serving the public conversation, we’re working to clean up inactive accounts to present more accurate, credible information people can trust across Twitter. Part of this effort is encouraging people to actively log-in and use Twitter when they register an account, as stated in our inactive accounts policy,”

a spokesperson informed.

“We have begun proactive outreach to many accounts who have not logged into Twitter in over six months to inform them that their accounts may be permanently removed due to prolonged inactivity,”

the spokesperson further said.

Though Twitter has not yet exactly informed that when recouped usernames will be made available to existing users, the account removal process will happen over many months and not just on a single day, informed the spokesperson. So don’t expect some massive username rush to happen in December, as it might take some time for the process to take place.

The attempt by Twitter to remove the inactive accounts and the accounts of deceased people is going to affect a lot of people.

“We do not currently have a way to memorialize someone’s Twitter account once they have passed on, but the team is thinking about ways to do this,”

as stated by the spokesperson.
